- the most holiest of feast days & festivals
- all sins from previous year atoned for
- 10th day of the 7th month

scapegoat

(Hebrew: "àzázel" - entire removal)

mercy seat

(Hebrew: "kapporeth" - place of atonement, exchange, reconciliaiton)
(from "kaphar")

propitiation

(Greek: "hilastèrion" - appeasement) = mercy seat

Zion = Jerusalem
